Classes run weekly in accordance with the Queensland State School term calendar. Throughout the year, we cover Drawing, Painting, Design, Sculpture, Clay, Printmaking and Art History. Classes are multi aged ranging from 4 - 11 years old. All age groups do the same activity, but we make sure there is always room to increase the technicality to challenge them or dial it down depending on the skill level and engagement of each individual student. To do this, Miss Kylie directs her focus on the older kids to help them push themselves and take their work to the next level. Whereas Miss Jade spends her time with the younger students which give them one on one attention and helps them engage in the class so they don't feel overwhelmed and lost. Our classes are a wonderful learning experience for the children as they may not usually be exposed to some of these techniques in a normal school classroom.
Please note there will be no classes on public holidays
Kids Art Classes

In this unit of work, we focus on the elements and principles of art, or as we say in class, the ingredients of art. We use fun and engaging activities to teach the kids how to use colour, line, texture, shape and tone in their art work. We also
demonstrate important aspects such as perspective, proportion, depth and much more. By using these important ingredients, we help them practice fine motor skills, observation, hand-eye coordination and concentration. We also look into the history of art and well known artists it such as Mondrian, Modigliani, Van Gogh and Warhol to name a few. We discuss who they were, why they were important, how they worked, their subject matter. The kids then enjoy discovering new ways to apply different paint and drawing mediums to paper and canvas as inspired by the chosen artist of the day.

This unit is an amazing hands on and tactical experience that allows to children to feel in control of the medium. Its helps them develop so many important skills including dexterity, hand-eye coordination and focuses their attention span. Working with 3 dimensional shapes is really important and translates to other forms of art as they further their understanding of depth and perception. Plus it's so much fun! We explore a range of techniques with clay including coil and pinch pots to create bowls and other fun objects such as funny monsters, characters and even our favioute foods. For other forms of sculpture, you can't go past the classic paper mache to get stuck in and break the fear barrier. Another approach we love is to use the everyday items around us and see how the different materials can be put together and made into art!

Our print making unit begins with understanding and establishing patterns. This is the perfect art form to explore what it means to create patterns and use them in the most effective and elevating ways. We practice this through relief printing, stencils, intaglio (engraving) and more. Finger printing, stamps and card making is also a cool area that we have fun with. We also mix it up and play with tie dye and paper marbling which is always a huge hit! The kids always leave this unit with amazing work and huge beaming smiles.

Knitting is one of the kids’ favourite activities that we do all year. They love to get in a knitting circle and experience the mindfulness that such a simple and repetitive task requires. We also explore weaving, making pompoms, and working with lots of wool and sensory igniting textures like felt.
